Those two things are hardly mutually exclusive. Emotions matter, yes, but how you handle them matters more. You might want to give up, but you're still trying. I don't think you'd be talking to me right now if you weren't.

Even me. It can be argued that I have given up before. Sometimes it's even alright to give up. Better for you, or something you can give up on for a little while, rest, without it being irrevocable.
But sometimes giving up is just the end, and will has to overcome desire.
